Thank you to all who participated in the survey. The results are very useful in that, distance wise at least, it opens the whole Country to us. Previously we were afraid to opt for remote destinations as we thought they might be too far; but with the improved road network, many destinations are now easily accessible.
Of 44 responses received, the main headings are detailed as follows:
Maximum cost Members are prepared to pay for a weekend: Maximum of €250 - 14% Maximum of €300 - 61% Maximum of €350 - 25%
Journey Times Members are prepared to travel: Maximum of 2hrs – 7%; Maximum of 3hrs – 9%; Maximum of 4hrs & I don’t mind longer journey for right package (which are basically the same): 84%
Would Members be interested in coach transport rather than driving, to a more distant location: Yes - 36% No - 64%
Change of format for a weekend? There were varied opinions on this question, with many happy with the existing format although some would like to stay a 3rd night to avoid a long drive home following a game of golf. Some would prefer to play 3 games in the one area, while others liked the idea of a game on the way / on the way home.
Suggested Destinations: Many destinations were mentioned as possibilities, including quite a few for Donegal, Kerry, Northern Ireland etc. There were also suggestions for locations which we hadn't previously considered, e.g. Dungarvan.
Based on the survey results, we will now make enquiries from various hotels / golf resorts / golf courses around the Country and try to put together the best possible package to entice the highest possible number of our Members to join our Society weekend in 2018 (and future years). For a group our size (we had over 50 on the last couple of trips) it is important that we book as early as possible to secure the best possible rates, dates and tee times.
We will hopefully have a package in place to launch this September.
help! any ideas for future society weekends?
It's getting near the time to start making preliminary enquiries about destinations for our 2018 weekend break (within Ireland) and we would welcome any suggestions as to where we might go next year and in future years. We've generally tried to move around to different areas of the Country and have covered a good many different golf courses, including many Championship courses, both North and South.
On the map below, the blue icons are courses that we have played on previous weekend trips, while the red icons are possible future destinations. These are just to give you an idea of the distances involved.

What we're really trying to determine is whether the likes of Donegal, Conemara, west Mayo etc, being up to a four hour drive each way, are too far to travel to. With excellent championship golf in these areas, we could put together a suberb weekend break, to match previous destinations like Cork, Lough Erne and Rosses Point / Enniscrone.
The survey is completely annonymous, so please be honest in your answers, so that we can come up with the best package, suitable to the majority.
Distance from Dublin is a major factor on Society weekends, particularly for the drive home on the Sunday evening, following our final game of golf. Would you prefer if we only left ourselves a shorter journey home? What would be your limit for a weekend, distance wise?
